A bipartisan commission of state lawmakers in New Mexico has launched an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s sprawling Zorro Ranch property, covering 7,600 acres south of Santa Fe.
The inquiry comes after local officials expressed concerns about the scope of a 2019 FBI search of the estate. State investigators are examining whether potential evidence or remains were overlooked during the earlier federal operation.
The Investigation
The current effort focuses on conducting a more exhaustive search of the property to address what officials describe as gaps in the previous examination. The investigation represents an attempt to determine whether materials related to Epstein’s operations remained unsearched or undocumented.
Meanwhile, Capitol Hill has increased its scrutiny of financial systems connected to Epstein’s activities. During a House Oversight Committee hearing, accountant Richard Kahn testified about complex financial transactions that were used to manage Epstein’s network.
