Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson responded with a statement on X expressing heartbreak over the violence, which he said disrupted Juneteenth celebrations in the neighborhood. “What should have been a night of celebration and community reflection was shattered by a horrific act of violence,” Johnson wrote.

Trump’s comments came as investigators in Washington, D.C., completed a probe into alleged manipulation of crime data by police officials. At least 13 Metropolitan Police Department personnel faced termination or discipline following the investigation.
Senior police officials allegedly downgraded serious offenses into lesser crime categories in official reporting systems, reducing violent crime figures in public data, according to reports reviewed by the House Oversight Committee. The practice involved multiple districts and levels of department leadership, investigators concluded.
Second District Commander Tatjana Savoy and former Third District Commander Michael Pulliam received termination notices, along with at least one police captain and additional supervisory officials. Pulliam had previously been suspended after similar allegations emerged.
