Former President Bill Clinton posted a video update Wednesday saying he will be around “for a lot longer” after being hospitalized with sepsis.
Clinton spent seven days at UC Irvine Medical Centre last week receiving treatment. The former president thanked hospital staff and medical professionals for their care in a Twitter video posted Wednesday.
Recovery Update
“I was so touched by the outpouring of support I received during my stay in the hospital,” Clinton said in the video. “I’d also like to thank the doctors and nurses at UC Irvine Medical Centre for the absolutely wonderful care that they gave me over the last seven days.”
An unnamed aide told the Associated Press that Clinton had a urological infection that spread to his bloodstream. The aide said the former president never entered septic shock and is recovering well.
Medical Details
Alpesh Amin, chair of the Department of Medicine at UC Irvine Medical Centre, confirmed Clinton’s condition had stabilized. “His fever and white blood cell count are normalised and he will return home to New York to finish his course of antibiotics,” Amin said.
Clinton said he was back home and doing well. “I’m on the road to recovery,” he said in the video.
Health Reminder
The former president used his update to encourage others to prioritize their health. “I want to remind everyone out there: Take the time to listen to your bodies and care for yourselves,” Clinton said. “We all have work to do and each of us has an important role to play in life and in the immediate future.”
