Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday he has no knowledge of Sen. Mitch McConnell’s condition and has not spoken with the Kentucky Republican since his hospitalization weeks ago.
McConnell, 84, was found unconscious at his Washington home in mid-June and required CPR, according to initial reports. His office has provided limited public updates, stating only that he is receiving care and continues to improve.
Questions About Transparency
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, sent a letter to McConnell on Wednesday requesting he provide a full health update to constituents. “As public officeholders, we have made a commitment to our constituents to do our best to represent them and to always be transparent,” Beshear wrote. “I believe this requires clear communication about one’s ability to serve.”
Trump’s comments add to growing uncertainty surrounding McConnell’s condition. White House correspondent Libby Dean reported that the president said he lacked information about the senator’s status.
Congressional Uncertainty
Republican senators have offered conflicting accounts of their knowledge regarding McConnell’s health. Utah Sen. Mike Lee stated that members of Congress remain uninformed about the senator’s current condition.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune previously said he had spoken with McConnell shortly after hospitalization, noting the senator “sounded good” and wanted to return to work. This contrasted with recent claims from conservative activist Laura Loomer, who cited unnamed sources suggesting McCollell’s condition was more serious.

McConnell’s office last week reported that the senator “continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.” The office has not disclosed specific details about his diagnosis or recovery timeline.
Questions about McConnell’s ability to complete his current term, which ends in January, have emerged amid the secrecy surrounding his health status.
