White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned protesters at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool during a television appearance, as authorities continue investigating alleged vandalism at the site.
Leavitt, who recently returned from maternity leave, discussed the situation during an interview on Fox News. She revealed that at least five people have been arrested in connection with alleged vandalism at the pool, with 14 police reports filed.
What Happened at the Reflecting Pool
The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool underwent a $14.8 million restoration project. Following completion, algae growth appeared in the water, prompting the Trump administration to investigate potential sabotage.

President Donald Trump inspected the site over the weekend and alleged significant damage to the pool’s structure. He stated on Truth Social that chemicals were illegally dumped and that a lengthy gash appeared in the pool’s lining.
Among those arrested was former Olympic canoeist David Hearn, who told NBC News he was detained for five hours after touching detached pool coating. Trump indicated the pool will likely require draining again to address the issues.
Official Response and Enforcement
Leavitt criticized what she described as activist demonstrations at the site, noting some protesters wore algae-themed costumes.
