Buckingham Palace firmly denied false online reports claiming King Charles III had died, confirming the monarch remains alive and actively conducting official business.
A Russian news outlet published a fabricated statement resembling an official palace announcement, complete with a royal seal, falsely claiming the King died unexpectedly. The misinformation prompted confusion and speculation on social media platforms.
Palace Issues Swift Denial
Buckingham Palace responded directly to Russian state-run news agency TASS, stating: “We are happy to confirm that The King is continuing with official and private business.” The statement reaffirmed that Charles remains actively engaged in his constitutional duties.
The false report surfaced amid ongoing public attention to the King’s health. In February 2024, the palace announced Charles had been diagnosed with cancer following treatment for an enlarged prostate.
King’s Health and Treatment
Palace officials clarified that the cancer was unrelated to prostate cancer and that Charles had begun regular treatment. Although he temporarily reduced public engagements on medical advice, the palace emphasized he would continue handling state business and official paperwork.
King Charles released a personal statement thanking the public for support and expressing admiration for healthcare professionals. He acknowledged experiences shared by others affected by cancer.
Ongoing Royal Duties
Despite adjusting his public schedule during treatment, King Charles III has continued meeting with government officials and fulfilling constitutional responsibilities from Buckingham Palace. The palace’s rapid response demonstrates the challenges posed by online misinformation affecting public figures.
