The incident occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. local time at the White House complex in Washington, D.C. Secret Service Communications Chief Anthony Guglielmi confirmed that uniformed officers quickly apprehended the man after he jumped over a construction bollard on the northeast side of the Treasury Building.
What Happened
During the physical altercation with the suspect, one Secret Service officer sustained a minor cut that was not life-threatening. Both the officer and the detainee were transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.
Deutsche Welle’s Washington bureau chief Ines Pohl shared imagery from the scene showing an officer running outside the White House perimeter. The identity of the individual remains undisclosed.
