Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation Friday to care for her husband, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
Gabbard shared her resignation letter on X, stating that her husband Abraham recently received the diagnosis and faces significant medical challenges ahead. She said the decision was necessary to provide full support during his treatment.
What Gabbard Said
“I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” Gabbard wrote in her announcement. She thanked President Donald Trump for appointing her to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Gabbard informed Trump of her decision before making the resignation public Friday. Her final day in the role will be June 30.
Administration Impact
Gabbard’s departure marks another high-level exit from the Trump administration. The intelligence community will need to identify a successor to fill the DNI position during the ongoing transition period.
