Ashley Biden, the daughter of former President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years, Dr. Howard Krein, according to court records filed in Philadelphia.
The 44-year-old submitted divorce paperwork Monday in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas. Divorce records remain sealed in the jurisdiction, leaving the specific reasons for the separation undisclosed.
The Marriage
Biden and Krein, a plastic surgeon, married in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware, after being introduced by Biden’s late brother Beau two years earlier. Ashley publicly acknowledged the wedding while presenting her father at the Democratic National Convention, recounting how Joe Biden arranged the reception details.
“At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception,” she told the crowd during her DNC remarks.
Moving Forward
On the day she filed, Biden posted to Instagram a photo of herself walking through a park with a thumbs up gesture, accompanied by Beyoncé’s song “Freedom.” She also shared a message about transitions: “New life, new beginnings, means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”
