Cole Allen, a teacher and Caltech graduate from Torrance, California, rushed the security perimeter in an attempt to reach the main ballroom where lawmakers, administration officials, and press members had gathered.
What Happened
Allen was carrying a shotgun and multiple knives when he breached the hotel’s outer security, according to law enforcement officials. Secret Service personnel intercepted him in the lobby before he could access the crowded ballroom and subdued him on the ground.
