A businessman’s honeymoon in India’s Shillong hills ended in his death when his new wife orchestrated his murder, authorities say.

Raja Raghuvanshi arrived in the hill city in May with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, to begin their married life. Within days, his body was discovered decomposed in a remote canyon, stripped of his identification and wedding ring.

The Investigation Unfolds

Initial suspicions fell on Raj Kushwaha, identified as Sonam’s alleged lover. However, investigators uncovered evidence pointing to a far more complex conspiracy.

Police determined that Sonam had orchestrated the entire scheme, manipulating Kushwaha with promises of affection while recruiting three additional accomplices-Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput-by offering them financial incentives.

How the Crime Unfolded

Sonam provided the conspirators with Raja’s location information to facilitate the attack. Between May 23 and 24, authorities believe Raja was ambushed and pushed into a gorge.

The conspiracy extended further. Sonam had simultaneously engaged with a third man while planning to eliminate her husband, investigators found.

The Arrest and Confession

Phone records became crucial to the case, leading police to arrest Sonam on June 8. She subsequently confessed to her involvement in the murder scheme.

The case has drawn widespread attention across India, revealing what authorities describe as a calculated scheme involving deception, financial motive, and coordinated violence.
