Iranian state media announced military strikes against U.S. installations across the Persian Gulf region, prompting multiple countries to close airspace and order citizens to shelter in place.

Iranian television reported that the military carried out coordinated attacks on American military facilities early Tuesday. The strikes targeted bases in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Qatar, according to state media accounts and regional authorities.

What Happened

Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE came under ballistic missile fire, with witnesses reporting large explosions at the facility. A powerful blast was also reported in Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s capital.

In Bahrain, smoke rose from the Al Jufair area near where the U.S. Fifth Fleet maintains its regional headquarters. Qatar’s Interior Ministry reported that a Patriot missile system intercepted a missile aimed at Al Udeid Air Base in the country.

Regional Response

The United Arab Emirates closed its airspace following the strikes. Qatar also shut down its airspace and issued a shelter-in-place directive for residents in affected areas.

Local authorities across the region advised citizens to avoid military installations and remain indoors. Qatar’s Interior Ministry specifically warned residents near military facilities to take protective measures.

What This Means

The coordinated nature of the attacks marks an escalation in regional tensions. Multiple U.S. military installations housing thousands of American personnel came under direct fire.

The strikes represent the most direct Iranian military action against American forces in the region in recent years. Regional aviation and civilian movement faced significant disruptions as a result.
