A single-engine turboprop aircraft crashed near Recluse, Wyoming on July 26, 2024, killing seven people including members of the renowned Southern gospel group The Nelons.
The victims included Kelly Nelon Clark and Jason Clark, both longtime members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame group. Also killed were pilot Larry Haynie, his wife Melissa Haynie, family assistant Melodi Hodges, her daughter Amber Hodges Kistler, and Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler.
The group was en route to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise in Alaska, where they were scheduled to perform. Autumn Nelon Streetman, the fourth member of The Nelons, was not aboard the aircraft.
What Happened
Witnesses reported that the aircraft experienced mechanical problems before it crashed and caught fire in a remote area near Recluse. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but there were no survivors.
The National Transportation Safety Board launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
The Response
Autumn Nelon Streetman described her grief as “indescribable” in a statement released after the crash. She expressed gratitude for the prayers, love, and support shown by fans, friends, and the gospel music community.
The tragedy prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians, pastors, and fans. Many remembered The Nelons for their musical talent and their dedication to ministry.
