The Trump administration announced that for 13 consecutive months, U.S. Border Patrol has released zero individuals apprehended at the southwest border into the interior of the country, according to data released June 19, 2026.
The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection attributed the record to stricter enforcement policies implemented after the administration took office. Every individual apprehended at the southwest border underwent processing that resulted in detention, removal, or deportation, according to officials.
What Administration Officials Said
President Trump said the milestone reflected his administration’s immigration priorities. “For the past 13 months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted into the United States,” Trump stated, adding that his administration has removed thousands of individuals convicted of serious crimes.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin called the record “the most secure border in American history.” He pointed to expanded detention capacity, expedited removals, and international agreements as factors contributing to the result.
CBP Commissioner Rodney S. Scott compared current enforcement levels to the previous administration. “The U.S. Border Patrol released zero illegal aliens into our country again this month, unlike April 2024 when more than 68,000 were released,” Scott said.

Policy Changes and Enforcement Measures
The administration reinstated and expanded several border policies upon taking office, including completing wall sections, reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy, and ending certain parole programs. The Secure America Act provided funding for additional agents, technology, and detention capacity.
Daily apprehensions have declined more than 90% from previous peaks, according to CBP data cited by officials. The administration also reported increases in drug seizures and removal operations targeting individuals with serious criminal convictions.
Congressional Response
House Judiciary Committee Republicans highlighted the enforcement data in statements released alongside the announcement. Some lawmakers linked stricter border policies to potential economic and public safety benefits in their districts.
