Former President Bill Clinton posted a video message Wednesday thanking hospital staff after being treated for sepsis at UC Irvine Medical Centre.

Clinton spent seven days receiving treatment at the California hospital last week. An aide disclosed that a urological infection had spread to his bloodstream, though the former president never entered septic shock.

Clinton’s Recovery Message

“Hi everyone, I was so touched by the outpouring of support I received during my stay in the hospital,” Clinton said in the video posted to his social media accounts Wednesday. “I’d also like to thank the doctors and nurses at UC Irvine Medical Centre for the absolutely wonderful care that they gave me over the last seven days.”

In the message, Clinton said he planned to remain active going forward. “I, for one, am going to do my best to be around, to keep doing the most good I can, for a lot longer,” he stated.

Medical Update

Dr. Alpesh Amin, chair of the Department of Medicine at UC Irvine Medical Centre, confirmed Clinton’s condition had stabilized. “His fever and white blood cell count are normalised and he will return home to New York to finish his course of antibiotics,” Amin said.

“I am really glad to be back home. I’m doing great, enjoying this beautiful fall weather. I’m on the road to recovery,” Clinton said in the video.

Health Advice

Clinton used his message to encourage others to prioritize their health. “I want to remind everyone out there: Take the time to listen to your bodies and care for yourselves,” he said. “We all have work to do and each of us has an important role to play in life and in the immediate future.”
