Tragic Bungee Jump Accident Claims Life of 21-Year-Old Woman, Three Arrested…#

A 21-year-old woman died after being released from a bungee jumping platform in Brazil without her safety rope properly attached, authorities said.

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas fell approximately 40 meters from the Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, São Paulo state, during a recreational event organized by a private group. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but could not save her, and she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Investigation and Arrests

Police detained six individuals involved in organizing or supervising the event. Three were later released, while three others face homicide-related charges, including a 32-year-old civil firefighter described as the alleged leader of the organizing group.

Two additional suspects, aged 42 and 27, remain in custody. According to police reports, two of the suspects attempted to flee after the tragedy but were later located and arrested.

Investigators are examining whether negligence, failure to follow safety procedures, or other violations contributed to the fatal accident. Prosecutors are expected to review evidence, witness statements, and operational procedures to determine the full extent of responsibility.

Safety Concerns and Response

Local officials have stated that the area lacked sufficient oversight and that previous requests for stronger safety measures had not received adequate attention. The incident has renewed calls for stricter regulations, inspections, and accountability for operators offering high-risk recreational activities.

The tragedy has generated intense public debate about safety standards surrounding extreme adventure activities across Brazil. What was intended as a recreational experience instead resulted in a preventable loss of life that has drawn national attention to systemic failures in oversight and equipment management.
