Seven people, including members of the gospel music family The Nelons, died when a twin-engine private plane crashed in Wyoming while en route to an Alaska event.
The aircraft went down during a flight to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise, a prominent gospel music event. Authorities confirmed the victims included pilot Larry Haynie, his wife Melissa, family assistant Melanie Hodges and her daughter Amber Hodges, Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler, and Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark of the award-winning gospel group.
What Happened
Preliminary reports indicate the twin-engine plane encountered mechanical difficulties while flying over Wyoming. Witnesses reported observing signs of trouble before the aircraft crashed into a remote area and caught fire.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene, but the fire had already engulfed the wreckage. No survivors were found at the crash site.
The Family’s Response
Autumn Nelon Streetman, the only immediate family member not aboard the aircraft, released an emotional statement following the accident. “I am overwhelmed by the support and prayers from our fans, friends, and the Christian music community,” she said, describing the loss as “a sorrow beyond words.”
She requested continued prayers for the family during the grieving period ahead.
Impact on Gospel Music Community
The Nelons were widely respected figures in Christian music, having performed and ministered for decades. Their music carried messages of faith, hope, and encouragement to audiences nationwide.
Tributes have come from fellow artists, fans, and religious leaders across the country. Investigators continue working to determine the exact cause of the crash.
