Breaking news anchor reporting on US Attorneys terminated Trump with White House backdrop

President Donald Trump’s White House issued immediate termination notices to multiple U.S. Attorneys appointed by the Biden administration, marking an unusual departure from standard transition protocol.

The White House deputy director for the office of presidential personnel notified the attorneys that their positions were terminated effective immediately on the president’s orders. Legal experts noted that while U.S. Attorneys typically resign following a change in administration, the incoming White House typically requests resignations rather than issuing formal termination letters.

Who Was Affected

U.S. Attorney Tara McGrath of San Diego confirmed she received termination notification late Wednesday. Maryland’s U.S. Attorney Erek Barron sent a farewell message to staff, stating that his tenure “has come to an end,” adding “It has been an honor to lead such a talented and dedicated team.”

Additional departures included Ismail Ramsey, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, who “concluded his leadership” of the position, and Seattle-based U.S. Attorney Tessa Gorman, who resigned at the president’s request. Dena King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, also announced her resignation Wednesday evening.

Senate Confirmations Advance

Separately Wednesday, the Republican-controlled Senate confirmed three Trump ambassadors. Warren Stephens won confirmation as ambassador to the United Kingdom in a 59-39 vote, with Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton praising him as the “right person to lead our strong, special relationship with the United Kingdom.”

Stephens, an investment banker and CEO of Stephens Inc., donated $3 million to MAGA Inc. in 2024, the primary Super PAC supporting Trump’s campaign. Private equity executive Tom Barrack secured confirmation as ambassador to Turkey in a 60-36 vote Thursday.
