CNN data analyst Harry Enten cited polling data showing President Donald Trump holds a 100% approval rating among his core Make America Great Again supporters, a figure he described as exceptionally rare in political polling.
Enten made the comments during an appearance on CNN News Central, referencing an NBC News poll that captured the unprecedented approval level within the MAGA segment of the Republican base. He characterized the finding as one of those polling results that immediately captures attention.
What The Data Shows
“Sometimes you look at the polling data and there are numbers that just jump off the screen at you,” Enten said. “And this is one of those.”
Enten compared Trump’s standing among MAGA voters to the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only NFL team to complete an undefeated season and win the Super Bowl, highlighting the rarity of such uniform support.
He emphasized that while some Republicans disapprove of Trump, those individuals do not identify as part of the MAGA movement. “If you are a member of MAGA, you approve of Donald Trump,” Enten said.
MAGA Base Remains Solid
CNN anchor Sara Sidner asked whether recent military operations against Iran had caused any weakening in Trump’s support within the MAGA base compared to 2024.
Enten said polling data showed no signs of erosion. He noted that approximately 30% of Americans now identify with the MAGA movement, up from 28% in November 2024, suggesting the base is expanding rather than contracting.
Multiple polls showed strong Republican backing for Trump’s military policies, with a Quinnipiac University survey finding 85% of Republicans support military action against Iran and a YouGov-Economist poll showing 91% of MAGA voters support the effort.
Long-Term Implications
In separate analysis, Enten warned Democrats that the MAGA movement is positioned to outlast Trump himself, with the political force maintaining its grip on the Republican Party independent of any single individual.
Enten stressed the distinction between Trump’s personal appeal and the broader movement he represents. “It’s not just about Donald Trump. It’s about the Make America Great Again movement,” he said.
