Vice President JD Vance has announced a massive probe into U.S. work visa fraud to protect American workers and dismantle criminal networks.

  • Vice President JD Vance and the Department of Labor launched a sweeping nationwide investigation on Wednesday into widespread abuse of U.S. work visa programs to curb immigration fraud and safeguard American jobs.

  • Speaking at an anti-fraud event in Milwaukee, Vance stated that the probe targets fraudulent schemes exploiting programs like the H-1B visa and employment-based green cards. Labor Department officials have already issued dozens of subpoenas as part of the expanding federal crackdown.

  • Inspector General Anthony D’Esposito revealed that fraudulent operations have cost the U.S. healthcare industry hundreds of millions of dollars while affecting multiple employment sectors. Federal investigators suspect some schemes involve organized forced-labor networks and human trafficking organizations.

  • According to D’Esposito, illicit labor brokers and unscrupulous employers submitted fake applications, enforced coercive wage-kickback arrangements, and undercut local wages. Officials cautioned that Department of Homeland Security estimates indicate up to 21 percent of H-1B visa petitions contain fraudulent claims.

  • Furthermore, federal authorities linked the widespread visa fraud directly to broader criminal enterprises, including drug cartels and transnational gangs. D’Esposito warned that fraudulent practices extend beyond manufacturing facilities into medical practices, potentially threatening patient safety across the nation.

  • Vance emphasized that the original purpose of the H-1B visa was to attract exceptional global talent in technology, science, and medicine. However, he argued that overseas fraudsters and large corporations have increasingly exploited the system to depress wages for American workers.

  • Data from the Pew Research Center shows that around 73 percent of H-1B visa recipients originate from India, with major technology companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft being top beneficiaries. Petitions previously reached a historic peak of 442,425 during the Biden administration in 2022.

  • The Trump administration maintains that this sweeping probe underscores its commitment to restoring integrity to national immigration systems, ending corporate abuse, and prioritizing American labor across all employment sectors.
